Tyrone Cammaroto — Sleep at the G 2026: The Morning After

What an eye opening and genuinely heart warming experience.

Last night I slept on the ground at the MCG for Sleep at the G 2026. It was my first one, taking part to raise money to end youth homelessness.
The concrete was hard. The stadium was cold. I barely slept. And that was the entire point. For one night a few hundred of us got a small, controlled taste of something thousands of young Australians live with every night, with none of the safety, the catering, or the warm bed waiting for them in the morning. I got to pack up and walk out. They do not.
What stayed with me was the people. Everyone who turned up, volunteered, organised, and gave was there for the same reason, and you could feel it across the whole night.

The fundraising side blew me away. I set a personal goal of $500 and finished on $554. Team Freemasons ’26 set a goal of $100,000 and the team raised over $114,000. Every dollar goes to Melbourne City Mission and the young people they support.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, or backed me on this. It genuinely means a lot.
One night was enough to make the point. The work to end youth homelessness goes on well past sunrise, and I am grateful to have played a small part in it.

Tyrone Cammaroto — Sleep at the G 2026: Eve of the Event

Tomorrow night is the night.

I am sleeping on the ground at the MCG as part of Sleep at the G 2026 with Team Freemasons '26, and I could not be more excited and nervous heading into my first event.

I have reached my personal fundraising goal of $500, finishing on $554. I am genuinely grateful to every single person who sponsored me. It means a lot, and every dollar goes directly toward MCM's work with young people experiencing homelessness across Victoria.

Team Freemasons '26 has also smashed through our $100,000 team goal, now sitting at over $101,000. An incredible effort from everyone involved.

Tonight I am getting my gear together. Tomorrow night I will be on the ground at the G. See you on the other side.

Here it is:

Tyrone Cammaroto — Sleep at the G 2026 Update: May 2026

Goal reached.

I set a personal fundraising target of $500 for Sleep at the G 2026. As of today I have raised $554, with Team Freemasons '26 raising over $25,000 toward a $50,000 team goal. Next Thursday night, 14 May 2026, I will be sleeping on the ground at the MCG as part of this event run by MCM, one of Australia's leading homelessness organisations.

This is the third fundraising commitment I have completed in 2026.

In March, I participated in The March Charge for Cancer Council Australia. I walked 219 kilometres throughout the month and raised $1,006.

In April, Tom Strmecki and I ran the Tan track in Melbourne as part of Run the Tan 2026 for R U OK. Our T&T Financial Group team raised $681 in total.

Since December 2025 I have committed seriously to my health, lost a significant amount of weight, and have been training consistently. Run the Tan was the first time I put that work on the clock publicly. Sleep at the G is a different kind of commitment. One night on the ground to stand for something bigger.

More than 7,600 young Victorians experience homelessness every night. A quarter of all Australians experiencing homelessness are aged between 12 and 25. MCM's specialist services include Youth Coaches, Education and Employment programs, and Therapeutic Staff who exist to help those young people heal from trauma and build a path to genuine independence.

I work in the Melbourne CBD as a finance broker at T&T Financial Group. I walk past people sleeping rough every day. Sleep at the G is my way of doing something about it rather than looking the other way.

To everyone who donated, shared the page, or sent a message of support, thank you. It means more than I can say. You helped me reach this goal and more importantly you helped MCM reach more young people who need it.

Tyrone Cammaroto — Sleep at the G 2026 Update: 17 April 2026

Four weeks from tonight I will be sleeping on the ground at the MCG.

I am halfway to my personal fundraising goal of $500, having raised $372 as of today. The team I am participating with, Team Freemasons '26, has raised $14,816 toward a $20,000 goal. I am proud to be part of a group of people who showed up for this.

I work in the Melbourne CBD. I see people sleeping rough every day on the way to client meetings. It is not something that gets easier to walk past. Sleep at the G is my way of doing something about it rather than just looking the other way.

More than 7,600 young Victorians experience homelessness every night. A quarter of all Australians experiencing homelessness are aged between 12 and 25. These are not statistics I am comfortable ignoring.

This is my second major fundraising commitment of 2026 following The March Charge in March, where I walked 219 kilometres and raised $1,006 for Cancer Council Australia. I made a decision at the start of this year to show up for causes that matter. I intend to keep doing that.

Tyrone Cammaroto Takes on Sleep at the G 2026 - Raising Funds to End Youth Homelessness

On the night of Thursday 14 May 2026, I will be sleeping at the MCG as part of Sleep at the G, brought to you by MCM - one of Australia's leading homelessness organisations.

Every night, more than 122,000 Australians experience homelessness. That number is larger than the maximum capacity of the MCG itself. And alarmingly, a quarter of all those people are aged between 12 and 24. In Victoria alone, more than 7,600 young people are sleeping rough or without a safe place to call home every single night.

Those are not comfortable numbers to sit with. They are not meant to be.

Sleep at the G exists to raise funds and awareness for youth homelessness in Victoria. Participants spend a night on the ground at the MCG to experience - in the smallest possible way - what it feels like to not have a safe place to sleep. The funds raised go directly toward MCM's specialist services for young people, including Youth Coaches, Education and Employment programs, and Therapeutic Staff who help young people heal from trauma and build the skills to transition to independence.

Homelessness is not a choice. It does not discriminate. And a safe roof is only the beginning - young people need sustained, specialist support to genuinely rebuild their lives.

I work in the CBD. I walk past people sleeping rough every single day. It is not something you can unsee, and it is not something I think you should look away from. Sleep at the G is my way of doing something about it rather than just walking past.

Youth homelessness in particular sits with me. These are young people - some as young as 12 - who have not had the start in life that most of us take for granted. They do not need judgment. They need specialist support, stability, and someone in their corner. That is exactly what MCM provides.

This comes off the back of The March Charge 2026, where I raised $1,006 for Cancer Council Australia and walked 219km throughout March. I made a commitment this year to show up for causes that matter - and this is the next one.

My fundraising target is $500. I have made a start but I need your help to get there. Every dollar raised goes directly to MCM's programs supporting young Victorians experiencing homelessness.

If you can donate, please do. If you cannot, sharing the link costs nothing and means more than you might think.

Together, we have the power to end youth homelessness.
