A cold concrete floor isn’t a bed. For 7,600 kids, it’s the only choice.

On Thursday 14 May, I’ll be heading to the MCG. But I won’t be there for the roar of the crowd or the excitement of the game. I’ll be there because when the lights go out, the ‘G becomes one of the coldest, loneliest places in Melbourne—and for one night, it will be my "home."

It’s heart-wrenching to think that while the MCG can hold 100,000 people, there are over 122,000 Australians right now who have nowhere safe to sleep. Even more devastating? One in four of them is a young person between 12 and 24.

In Victoria alone, 7,600 kids are couch-surfing, sleeping in cars, or hiding in alleyways every single night. They aren't there by choice. They are escaping trauma and violence, looking for a safety that most of us take for granted.

I’m sleeping at the ‘G to raise money for Melbourne City Mission. They don't just provide a temporary bed; they provide the trauma support and stable housing these young people need to finally stop running and start living.

I’m asking you to stand with me.

My night at the ‘G will be cold and uncomfortable, but it’s nothing compared to the fear a 16-year-old feels tonight with no door to lock behind them.
