How to get to the MCG
add remove
Entry to Sleep At The ‘G will be via Gate 2 of the MCG. Gate 2 is just a short walk along the MCG concourse/Yarra Park from the corner of Jolimont Terrace and Jolimont Street, East Melbourne.

Arriving by car

Car parking in Yarra Park will be open (dependent on weather conditions) from 4:30pm – 8:00pm on Thursday 14 May. Access is via Gate 3 in Yarra Park (Wellington Parade South).

Parking fees will apply (EFTPOS only) and all money is re-invested back into upkeep of the park.

The car park will re-open at 5:30am for you to leave.

For alternative parking options, visit the MCG Parking Information page

Arriving by public transport

The best way to get to the MCG is by public transport. The MCG is serviced by the following:

  • Jolimont Train Station: Mernda and Hurstbridge lines.
  • Richmond Station is also nearby.
  • Tram: Stops 7C or 7B (Route 70), or Stops 10, 11 or 13 (Routes 75 or 48)

Your packing checklist
add remove
  • Your ticket. Download your ticket from your dashboard.
  • Single sized sleeping, camping or yoga mat.
  • Sleeping bag, pillow, blankets.
  • Warm clothing. It will get frosty so layer up! This is the perfect time to pull out that onesie.
  • Empty water bottle that you can refill once inside the MCG.
  • Toiletries. There are no showers, but you'll still want some basic toiletries to freshen up.
  • Fully charged mobile phone and portable power bank. There will be no power outlets or charging stations available.
  • Earplugs. Trust us, you don't want to forget these unless you find comfort in a chorus of snoring.
  • Your favourite snacks. A light meal of soup will be provided and some food outlets will be open, but additional snacks never hurt.
We recommend limiting the number of personal items you bring. This is a public event with no cloakroom or lockers available.
What not to bring
add remove

In the morning there will be egg and bacon rolls along with a juice bar.

There will be vegetarian options available. Beyond this, we encourage you to bring your own meals and snacks if you have special dietary requirements.

If you have nut allergies, please be aware that the  food may have been prepared where nuts have been present.

Where to get help

  • The information desk is located in the Gate 2 Atrium for help throughout the evening.
  • You'll be able to find volunteers walking around in MCM or MCG hoodies or vests.
  • Security will be roaming the sleeping areas throughout the night.
If you require First Aid, seek out a volunteer or staff member, or you can head to the First Aid room located near the Bullring Bar on Level B1.
