We Have The Power To End Youth Homelessness

Why am I sleeping at the 'G?

Youth homelessness doesn’t always look like what you’d expect, and it's often hidden in places like Banyule. Young people in our community are sleeping rough, couch surfing, or stuck in unsafe or unstable housing. They’re not always seen, but they’re here - and they need our support.

On Census night in 2021, more than 500 people in Banyule were counted as homeless. If national trends are reflected locally, around 120 of them were aged just 12 to 24. Many more are at risk too, possibly facing family breakdowns, mental-health challenges, or simply struggling to afford a place to live.

Banyule doesn’t have any youth-specific crisis beds - and while local support services work incredibly hard, they’re under-resourced and often overstretched. That’s why I’m taking part in Sleep at the 'G to raise awareness, raise funds, and raise my voice alongside others calling for change.

Every dollar donated helps provide support, advocacy, and housing pathways for young people who deserve a safe and stable home.
